What Carabiner Should I use for the Kong Duck?

For those who aren’t extremely experienced with the climbing/tactical/working at height worlds, some of the gear that is used in saddle hunting can be a bit confusing at first.  Complicated by companies blurring the lines and trying to sell “complete kits”, this can be a complicated world to navigate.  And, as with many of my other blog posts and videos, I am typing this in direct response to a common question.

Carabiners come in many shapes, sizes, and styles.  Although I prefer a pear shaped carabiner for much of the work I do, the Kong Duck needs an oval shaped carabiner to work properly.  The Kong Duck opens by allowing one side to rotate away from the tunnel that the carabiner goes through, and using an oval carabiner places equal pressure on both sides of the Duck, allowing it to properly function.

I made a video to more clearly show the differences, please take a moment to watch it!
